Whether building treehouses as a kid, serving as a carpenter's assistant as a teen, or creating furniture as an adult, I've always been a maker, happiest connecting the hands and the brain.
Born and reared in Sherborn, I was raised in a large & active family and am a proud product of the local public schools. After graduating from UMass with an American history degree in the mid-1980's, I aspired to mimic the romanticized world of a 19th century joiner, tinkering in my very own shop. I was fortunate to be able to sample that when my folks bought a then recently vacated dairy and horse farm called Pleasant View Farm after the last family member died, Harold Hildreth. Resolving to rebuild the 1840's barn and house, a two-year restoration ensued, with yours truly resurrecting much of the barn, guided by an 1870's photograph courtesy of the Sherborn Historical Society. Just previously, George Fiske & friends/preservationists secured the farm and stabilized the barn prior to the total overhaul. While Millis master carpenter Tom Proe rebuilt the house, he generously guided me through the barn restoration. Also then built a post & beam Shaker shed and the wood shop.
