Working 1-1 to create a project that you devise is the best way to learn the craft. As a 33 year, award-winning high school history teacher and life-long serious wood hobbyist with formal training, here's your opportunity to advance your skills, create something awesome, and access a professional-caliber shop at a reasonable cost.

Perhaps your teenager wants to test a potential interest, tying the hands to the creative side of the brain? Here's that chance!

Learning goals:

Fundamentals of hand and machine tool use: develop safe and effective habits so your hobby can evolve satisfactorily

Design: take your ideas from a mental state or sketch to a piece of furniture (you may also have acquired plans or just prefer to figure a project out together!)

Safety: learn how to use tools safely and effectively

Sharpening: if you have your own blade tools, we can explore how to get them into great shape, an essential for fine craftsmanship.

Finishing: learn the basics of preparing wood to look its best and handle wear

Rates:

Option A: Two 3-hour shop sessions (1-1 instruction, 6 hours. the minimum for tool introduction and small-scale project): $250

Option B: More than two 3-hour sessions, project dependent: original $250, then $120 for each subsequent 3-hour session

Work sessions are scheduled during the day, weekends included. Space is limited!Supplies considerations: during the collaboration sessions, the shop is our shared space. Materials like glue, double-sided tape, screws and the like, are included [within reason]. Wood for the project is an additional cost, we can discuss these needs individually.

The shop emphasizes SAFETY at all points. While operating machines, hearing and eye protection are required, no exceptions (ear and eye protection provided as needed). Recklessness or negligence will result in non-refundable cessation of our work.

A SIGNED INJURY WAIVER is required prior to engagement.
